Military Families are the strength behind the uniform and the Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (Halifax & Region MFRC) is proud to be a part of a strong military family community. The Halifax & Region MFRC is a not-for profit, charitable organization, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of a minimum of 51 per cent military spouses. The mission of the Halifax & Region MFRC is to promote the health and social well-being of individuals, families and communities who share the unique experience of military life.

The Halifax & Region MFRC serves military families in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Shearwater, Central and Northern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton, with service sites in Halifax, Shearwater and Sydney, Cape Breton.

Are you new to the area? Contact us and get connected. We offer a welcome program and provide welcome packages to families who are new to the area. If your family is, or will be experiencing a deployment, get in touch and we can help to keep you connected throughout the deployment. The Halifax & Region MFRC offers something for everyone. You are invited to drop-in for a tour at anytime.

The Halifax & Region MFRC offers programs and services for children, youth, adults and families. As part of a national network of MFRCs, the Halifax & Region MFRC offers programs in the areas of Community Integration, Personal Development, Employment Assistance services, Prevention, Support and Intervention, Deployment, Child, Youth and Parenting and Volunteer Development. We also provide second language services for military families, including English as a second language training, a francophone group, bilingual assistance and resources. Additional services offered by the Halifax & Region MFRC include a 24-hour, seven day per week information and referral telephone service, which provides program registration, general information and emergency services. The Halifax & Region MFRC also provides community outreach to Regular and Reserve Force families in the various areas we service. Military family IDs are available at all three of our locations: Halifax Site, Windsor Park Building 106, Shearwater Site, Hampton Grey Memorial Centre and Sydney, Cape Breton Site, Victoria Park.

Daycare: A full-time, state of the art daycare for children aged 4 months to 5 years in military families is also located in Windsor Park. Call 722-4664 to find out if spaces are available for your child. The MFRC’s Shearwater Site also offers a daycare program and before and after school programs. Call the Shearwater Children’s Centre at 720-2004 for more information on availability of spaces.

As an independent, provincially registered charity the MFRC relies on community support to provide many programs and services. Corporate and individual donations ensure we are able to provide resources so Canadian Forces members and their families can stay strong.
