Deployment Services

DEPLOYMENT is defined as: ANY WORK RELATED SEPARATION (i.e. away on courses, training, IR, short and long deployments)

Military Families: Strength Behind the Uniform

We are incredibly proud of the work our Canadian Forces members do at home and around the world. We also recognize that much of the strength that makes the CF member successful is support from their family, who also make sacrifices on behalf of our country.

The MFRC believes that all military families are strong, independent, resilient and resourceful. We are constantly inspired by you. You manage many unique and challenging circumstances… and opportunities.

Deployment is one of the most significant experiences of being in a military family. And we know, quite frankly that Murphy’s law comes into full effect the day after your loved one goes away. The washer breaks… the kids get sick…etc. And, while we can’t fix your washer or stop it from breaking, we do provide resources, info and most importantly, the connections to others that will help you get and grow through a deployment.

Throughout the separation you may become a single parent- managing a household, children, parents etc. You may experience fear, stress and loss. You’ll also have many opportunities to grow and get stronger, help other families experiencing deployment and even have some FUN, while supporting the work of our committed, talented Canadian Forces members.

At the MFRC you will be connected to programs, services and resources to help you stay in touch with your partner, your friends (old and new), the MFRC and the military community before, during and after the deployment. The MFRC strives to keep you well-informed and connected in a variety of ways.

Get in touch with us… We don’t always know you have a CF member deployed. Please contact us to ensure that we have your contact info. deployment@halifaxmfrc.ca

More about Deployment Services

Deployment does not begin when the member leaves nor does it end on his/her arrival home. MFRC programs and services do their best to provide on-going support to CF members and their families. When the military member is away for an extended time period, families are faced with additional challenges — from flat tires to emotional support. Our Family Network Groups facilitate a variety of activities for family members to get together, meet others and share experiences… all while having fun!

Deployment Services provides programs and resources to help families stay connected throughout a work related separation. Services and programs are available before, during and after deployments. These services are available to both regular and reserve force families.

Our activities during a deployment include Family Networks, where families get together to plan and participate in a variety of activities. Some past examples include dinner theatre, sleigh rides, children’s parties and spa days. Contact the MFRC to find out about joining a Family Network. It is a great way to meet new people and have some fun.

We also help families stay connected and informed through some of the following activities:

  • Pre-Deployment Briefings
  • Briefings and information sessions throughout deployment
  • Assistance at Departures and Homecomings
  • Family Networks throughout deployment, taskings and other military related separations
  • Special events for families
  • Workshops and social groups
  • Communication support
  • Resources and publications
  • Liaison with military and civilian organizations

Some things to plan for before deployment

Contact our Deployment Services to make sure that all family members are on our contact list (we can even contact people who are living in other provinces and put them in touch with the MFRC nearest to them).

Do you have a Military Family ID? The military member and spouse must both be present to have the ID done. The Halifax & Region MFRC is open from 7 am- 10 pm daily for IDs. Call 427-7788 for information.

Do you have an emergency childcare plan for your children?

Need some tips for talking to kids about deployment?

Do you want to join in with the deployment network? Contact us to find out more.

Please always remember…WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER.

The MFRC and the Deploying Units in partnership with military families can support one another and enhance the quality of life for everyone.
