WINTER WELLNESS BREAK – ALL-INCLUSIVE CARIBBEAN GET-AWAY (19+)

Book your all-inclusive Caribbean getaway afternoon without leaving Halifax! Choose your day - Saturday for couples and Sunday for individuals. The cold weather, snow shovelling and early sunsets can make winter time challenging to take care of ourselves, especially for those experiencing a deployment. Our tour guides for the day will lead a well-deserved break from winter with self-care activities including guided breathing and relaxation, mini-massages from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy, healthy snacks and more!

Crafting Connections 1 day crop

Come work on a project and meet other crafters! Just about any type of craft is welcome as long as its mobile! Crocheting, cross stitch, beading, writing, sewing, needle work, knitting, spool knitting, tatting, embroidery, drawing, stamping, scrapbooking just to name a few! This event is open to military family and friends so embrace the opportunity to bring a few friends along and/or to make a few new friends in the community.

STORM POLICY FOR CASUAL CARE

When the H&R MFRC is closed, all casual care programs will be cancelled. If the H&R MFRC has an early closure, casual care will be cancelled and participants will be contacted to pick up their child(ren).

When the H&R MFRC is open and HRSB schools are closed or have a delayed opening due to weather the following programs will be cancelled: New Baby, Gymboree, Play and Learn, Parent/Bambin, Free Play Friday. When the H&R MFRC is open and schools are closed or have a delayed opening due to weather the Casual Care Program may be running. Closures are determined based on factors including staff availability, weather conditions, road conditions and clearance of parking lots. Participants are asked to check (one of) the following sources prior to coming to the program:

PLAY & LEARN (AGES 12 MONTHS - 5 YEARS)

Parents with children 5 years and under, it’s time to play! Join us as we explore the world through art, messy play, gross motor play and story time. Parents can also gain tips and ideas around parenting challenges. Limited spaces are available.

Welcome Baby

Will you be welcoming a new bundle of joy soon? Parenthood is a beautiful journey full of love but there can also be a lot of unknowns and unfamiliarity. We would like to offer support to your journey by inviting you to our Welcome Baby course. Topics for consideration will be labour and delivery, lifestyle options (feeding, diapering, sleeping etc.), attachment, car seat safety and/or self-care. There will be opportunity for public speakers and resource building so you can move into parenthood feeling supported.

KINDERGYM

Spend your Saturday mornings this winter getting active by playing in a gym lled with trikes, riding toys, balls, and other toys. A light snack will be provided for the children. Not only will children have the opportunity to interact with other kids, but Kindergym is a great program for parents to get to know their community and meet other military families.

Youth Mooseheads Game

Henderson Sweetman Youth Centre & Scotiabank Centre

True to our Canadian passion - join us at the Youth Centre for a bus ride down to the Scotiabank Centre to watch the Halifax Mooseheads take on the Saint John’s Sea Dogs. We will bus from the YC and back again after the game.

Time: Meet at the YC for 1pm, game time is 3pm, bus back to YC, pick up at 7:30pm

Home Alone for youth

What happens when you want to make a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch when your mom is gone out, but you don’t know how to use the stove? Or, maybe you accidentally cut your finger by yourself and you don’t know how to properly bandage it up. You’re now at an age where becoming independent is cool and wouldn’t it be great to learn some of these skills while you are home alone? We’ll teach you some of these types of life skills, including stove safety, basic first aid, how to plunge a toilet and much more so you can show your parents how responsible you really are!

L’ambiance y est détendue et les participantes peuvent se réunir, créer des liens et parler de leurs expériences liées au mode de vie militaire. Venez faire de nouvelles connaissances en savourant un café et faites une petite pause loin des enfants. Service de garde disponible.
