Holiday Fest 2015

Families from the Halifax region gathered at the Dartmouth Sportsplex on Saturday December 12 to celebrate the holiday season. The H&R MFRC organized the annual Holiday Fest celebration and just as in previous years it was a smash hit.

Over three hundred people packed into the sprawling Sportsplex and enjoyed constant stream of fun activities. There were two special guests who did not go unnoticed by the crowds: Santa Claus and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer took time out of their busy schedules to hand out little gifts to the kids and take pictures with families.

In the morning, families took the opportunity to go for a dip in the pool area. Some of the more brave attendees spent their time indulging in the waterslides that looped around from the ceiling to the water. The big event for the afternoon was the family skate where even Santa and Rudolph got out on the ice to hand out candy canes.

Over twenty volunteers helped to with the event, from the planning to the execution. Holiday Fest is a reminder for people to get into the spirit of the season and to spread awareness about services offered by the MFRC. Colonel Peter Allan, 12 Wing Commander, was in attendance and praised the MFRC for their efforts.

“I depend on the MFRC heavily to provide support to our families and help families out when my members are off deployed. So, events like this are great to get families engaged with the MFRC. For some it will be their first exposure, so this is a way to reach out to families and help them understand the support services that are available,” he said.

All-State Auto Insurance and the Discovery Center also sponsored the event. They provided healthy snacks and hands-on science displays.
