Volunteers give back to the Military Community through Operation We Care

By: Emily Hatcher, Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre

Wednesday, June 6, 30 volunteers joined the Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre (H&R MFRC) for “Operation We Care” Canada Day Packaging Event.  Four times each year, volunteers band together to seek donations, assemble, decorate and send packages to Canadian Forces (CF) members who are deployed in various locations throughout the world. The themed packages assembled by this amazing group of volunteers is designed to boost the morale of Halifax based deployed CF members.

“These particular CF members are not only away from their families and loved ones; they are separated from their regular home units in Nova Scotia. Through the generous support of local community businesses, groups and individuals, volunteers obtain items to include in the packages that they hope will remind CF members that they are thought of and appreciated back home,” said Colleen Calvert, Executive Director, H&R MFRC.

Volunteers assembled and decorated 71 Canada Day themed parcels that were filled with donated items from 25 generous local businesses and individuals.  Those interested in donating to Operation We Care can visit www.halifaxmfrc.ca for more information and a list of preferred items for the next mail out. On behalf of the H&R MFRC, thank you to all of our generous donors and volunteers for giving back to our military community through Operation We Care.
